Position Overview
Christ Light Day Nursery, the childcare program of Lydia’s House, a family homeless shelter in Norwood Ohio, seeks a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Assistant Administrator & Lead Teacher. This role guides a mixed-age classroom (infants through preschoolers) and provides administrative support to the Director. All children enrolled in Christ Light have a recent history of homelessness, and the Assistant Administrator is expected to bring empathy, resilience, and trauma-informed practice to this unique community. Previous experience working with high need children is a must.
The ideal candidate is a skilled early childhood professional who meets the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) requirements for a Daycare Administrator. This role blends direct classroom leadership with program coordination, ensuring a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment for children while also supporting the administrative and operational needs of the center.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership
- Plan, implement, and oversee daily curriculum and activities for a mixed-age group in alignment with the nursery’s mission and philosophy.
- Provide trauma-informed, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate practices that meet the needs of children with diverse backgrounds and experiences of homelessness.
- Supervise classroom staff, interns, and volunteers; provide mentorship, training, and ongoing support.
- Maintain health, safety, and licensing standards at all times, including diapering, toileting, handwashing, and supervision protocols.
- Develop strong relationships with children and families, fostering trust and open communication.
Administrative Support
- Assist the Director with scheduling, staff supervision, licensing compliance, and record-keeping.
- Ensure documentation, daily logs, and reports are accurate and timely.
- Help manage enrollment processes, family communications, and community partnerships.
- Support staff professional development and orientation.
- Act as acting Director in the Director’s absence, when delegated.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of classroom teaching experience in early childhood settings.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, mixed-age curriculum, and positive behavior guidance.
- Current CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Communicable Disease certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass ODJFS background checks.
