This summer, Lydia’s House was fortunate enough to partner with University of Notre Dame’s NDBridge program. NDBridge is an eight week summer credit internship the university offers that allows students think about injustices in the world, work with communities that face them, and work to consider their responsibly of how to contribute to the common good of communities and the world.

Our four interns, Aracely, Allison, Joe, and Dominik allowed us to do something a little different this year at Lydia’s House: Summer Day Camp! The camp was free and was offered to former Lydia’s House children, allowing them to have a fun and enriching summer experience that they may not have gotten otherwise. The biggest achievement made by camp this summer was teaching many of our kids how to swim!

In addition to swim lessons, the kids were able to receive help in reading comprehension, learned to ride bikes, go camping, and go on many field trips to different places in the Cincinnati area including Gorman Farms, The Acres Mini Golf, a Driving Range, The Cincinnati Zoo, a Reds game, and a FCC game just to name a few!

Our final week of camp included our interns taking campers to Vacation Bible School and assisted in leading some of the classes at Bellarmine Chapel. The last week of camp also included campers working on finishing the final touches on their costumes for the Norwood Day Parade! After the camp day was over, parents joined their campers at Lydia’s House for a dinner and a Magic Show! The evening concluded with some of our kids taking part in the parade!

It has been quite the eventful summer and it could not have been possible without our NDBridge interns. Aracely, Allison, Joe, and Dominik, we wish you all the best as you continue your education at Notre Dame. We hope you know that the Lydia’s House community will always be supporting you wherever you go.
