The holiday season is upon us, and Lydia’s House has been getting into the Christmas spirit. Throughout this month, we have been doing lots of festive activities to fit the season.
Our month started with having Breakfast with Santa!
Our families enjoyed a pancake breakfast, made crafts, sang Christmas carols, and of course, took a few pictures with Santa Claus.
We want to give a special thanks to the Ladies of the Moose (Lodge 301) for putting this event on for us!
As many of you may know, December 6th is St. Nick’s Day. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children, bakers, brides, unmarried women, grooms, sailors, and travelers. His legendary habit of secret gift-giving is what inspired the present-day Santa Claus.
David and Debbie introduced one of their own family St. Nick’s Day traditions to our guests at the house. On the eve of St. Nick’s Day, we all got together and made a traditional Swiss bread. Both moms and kids had a blast shaping the dough into different shapes before baking it. Everyone was able to enjoy their bread for breakfast the next day with butter and honey.
Of course, what really makes it feel like Christmas in the house is putting up the Christmas tree. This year, with assistance from some wonderful little helpers, we have our tree looking as festive as ever!
Last night at the house, there was a hot chocolate-drinking, cookie-eating, Christmas music-singing, gingerbread house-making party! The moms and children worked in teams to assemble and decorate Gingerbread houses with some pretty fantastic results.
Every single house built was of award-winning quality!
In the midst of the festive times, we also remember the true reason for this season: the birth of Jesus, the Son of the Most High, and the one who taught us how to love unconditionally through our everyday lives.
From our hearts to yours, we hope you have a blessed holiday season.
With love,
