Even though snow blows today, spring is growing near. We had our first backyard cookout (thanks Sue & Marcia!) and are looking forward to Zoo Babies and Ameristop ice cream soon. We also just celebrated the conclusion of “Winter Wellness BINGO.” Winter Wellness BINGO was created last year as winter grey days and holidays, often a trigger for painful memories, loomed ahead. Each guest and staff member was given a BINGO card with various activities to complete over the winter months. This activity gave a language and a framework for having regular conversations about practicing coping skills, building positive relationships, and engaging in healthy leisure activities. Individuals submitted selfies as proof of their completion of tasks.

Individuals who completed all 24 activities received a care package so that they could continue their wellness habits. Those who completed all squares remarked that the goals helped them to stay active in the winter. Highlights included having neighbors over for dinner, watching a favorite movie (Little Women), going hiking with a friend, and reading good books. All in all, Winter Wellness BINGO left us all better equipped to weather the winter doldrums and helped us practice positive behaviors that we can continue to do, even as the weather warms.

Here are some of the activities that we enjoyed…

Go to a New Park
Read a Good Book
Make a Meal to Share with Others
Try a New Fruit or Vegetable
Play a Board Games with Friends
