Have you been by Lydia’s House recently? If not, the next time you drive by, you might have to do a double take! The construction crews have been making lots of progress the past several weeks putting up walls and connecting the two buildings, getting us just that much closer to having a completed project to provide better quality care, resources, and experiences to our guests.

If you take a closer look at our backyard picture above, you may notice that our walnut tree is gone! A few weeks ago, a logging crew came in to remove the big tree along with a few others. In addition to the trees, we removed the metal fence that was separating the shelter and our new property building during our last volunteer work day. This is in preparation for our new yard landscape that is to come. This will include a custom designed playground that was drawn up with suggestions and input from some Lydia’s House kids!

The most recent occurrence with our construction happend just last week. Our front porch was torn off. Soon the construction team will be building a big porch that will stretch across the entirety of the house front. The new porch will have a ramp that will allow for easier door access to our guest pushing strollers.

While Lydia’s House may not be in its prettiest state at the moment, we must remember this is a journey towards a new beginning. A beginning that allows us to be more creative, encouraging, and fruitful with the families we serve, Lord willing. Stay tuned as we continue making progress towards our end goal.
