On Sunday February 8th we hosted a volunteer appreciation brunch at board member Rick Boydston’s home to enjoy a spread of delicious food and honor the 30+ guests who have volunteered with Lydia’s House in 2014.  Over the past year and beyond, we have been blown away by the disposition of compassion of our volunteers and therefore made our theme for this year’s volunteer appreciation gathering “Compassionate Hands and Hearts”. We acknowledged Henri Nouwen’s statement, “Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish…Compassion means full immersion in the condition of being human.” Countless individuals and families have come alongside our vision of serving women and children in crisis and transition. These individuals have extended their hands of hospitality and compassion through volunteering at Lydia’s House with cooked meals, companionship to guests and community members alike, cleaning and organizing, childcare, crafts, gardening and yard work, and countless other offerings of time, talents, and passions.

To sufficiently say “thank you” to all of you who have given of yourselves seems unattainable with words (though delicious food is one step closer!) Know that we love each one of you and we are grateful to be a part of this endeavor together.

We’ve included the slideshow that was shown at the appreciation brunch.  If you’re looking for a place to plug-in which feels more like family than ministry, we invite you to take an inside look at the faces who have become part of our “family”.
